Little Italy's Iconic San Gennaro Feast

The San Gennaro Feast has been an iconic feast for years in New York's little Italy. This year marks the 88th annual feast celebrating San Gennaro the Patron Saint of Naples. The feast will be held for 11 days commencing September 11th and ending on September 21, 2014.

The feast will be held in lower Manhattan's Little Italy on and around the historic Mulberry Street. Little Italy somewhat has become smaller but was once the home to the first Italian immigrants whom made this small American community into a large, rich and happy Italian Community. The San Gennaro Feast is held each year in honor of keeping alive the faith and spirit of the first Italian Immigrants

Each year the feast attracts more than one-million people from the four corners of the globe to the streets of Little Italy to participate in the annual Salute to the Patron Saint of Naples. Although the feast is an annual celebration of Faith, it's globally known as festive atmosphere, representing religious processions, colorful and fun parades, live music and worldwide celebration of ethnic foods and also the famous cannoli eating contest.

Joseph Mattone, President of Figli di San Gennaro, Inc. (San Gennaro Event Organizazione) explains:
"The San Gennaro feast holds a special place in the Italian people everywhere. The Feast brings the world to Little Italy and Little Italy to the world.”
