The Charming Town of Alberobello

Alberobello is a small town located in Southern Italy, precisely in the Puglia region. It's a charming and  picturesque destination especially for independent travellers. Alberobello's unique charm is characterized by Trulli.

Trulli's are small dwellings from the local lime stones, and are made of stone dry walls and having  characteristics of white-washed conical roofs. People actually live in these Trulli's. Alberbello is an ideal one day trip destination or even an ideal  multi-day destination. There are many things to see and do in Alberobello, the primary thing would be, take a walk along the streets and just enjoy viewing the various Trulli's that highlight the beauty and charm of this town.

Cantina Albea - Winery & Museum

Alberobello is also home to various small museums and wineries (Cantina Albea Winery and Museum), kiosks of local products as well as plenty of unique souvenirs such as the miniture Trulli's. The centre of Trulli has it's fascination by local small town streets with regular buildings where one can spot a trulli or two in between. One might even get lucky enough to be welcomed into a Trulli and actually see how it looks and feels to be inside one.

Rione Monte

A famous tourist district of Alberobello is  Rione Monte, a slope facing the modern town area. This district consists of narrow lanes slopping upwards while others slopping alongside the hill which makes it a very picturesque scene.

Local Shops

Many local shops and bars are in Trulli's and where you will find locals to be very welcoming and actually inviting you to  taste their local products products anywhere from wine sampling to cookies to pasta. What to expect in souvenirs? Anything imaginable shaped into a Trullo. Rione Monte district is also famous for the only twentieth century Trullo church: Chiesa di Sant' Antonio.

Typical Alberobello Souvenirs
Another interesting district but less popular tourist destination of Alberobello is Aia Piccola; let's put it this way, it's considered a residential area, with quiet lanes and streets highlighted by smaller Trull's.

An interesting museum to visit is Museo del Territorio (Territory Museum) structured by the combination of ten + small Trulli's which displays many of Alberobello's agriculture. A few rooms are set up to show how, the past tinhabitants once lived. Other small but interesting museums are: The Olive Oil Museum, Wine Museum and Handcraft Museum.

Orecchiette with Greens

The food in the Puglia region is absolutely delicious and range from fresh seafood to wonderful pastas. Typical pasta of the Puglia region is know as Orecchiette (small ears) and a traditional Alberobello dish is Orecchiette with Greens (Orecchiette con Broccolini) For your pleasure we've included a video on how to prepare this traditional and delicious dish. Happy Trulling!
